I love the internet and all the forms of media I can consume with it, I really do. At the same time, I realize though that I binge on content in an unhealthy way. I sit in front of my computer watching a youtube video or Netflix while browsing my phone the minute I hit a boring scene or just have to wait for things to load. My mind needs constant entertainment and I feed it in all manners to the point of gluttony. There is hardly a minute in my day to day life where I am not bombarding myself with images, sounds, words, sometimes in several different languages at once. I can only paint while listening to my favorite music. I get bored drawing if I don't listen to an audiobook or podcast. I study Korean on my way to and from an appointment on my phone while simultaneously listening to Kpop and I go to sleep at night after reading on my phone for a few hours and putting on subliminal positive mantras to the sound of ocean waves during the night.I know I might be an extreme case. I also know that I can not use more than 2-3 screens of media input at once without losing focus while the generation that is growing up now, will easily handle 5 and more while easily holding a conversation. Are we scattering our focus? Are we doing one thing we really love or are we doing 5 at the same time we only barely tolerate? I remember what life is like without the internet, smartphones and social media. I don't say I miss it, but I'm glad that I remember it and grew up without it considering everything.
